The Loveworld Medical Centre is placing advanced cancer care at the centre of a major international medical conversation with the International Symposium on Radiopharmaceutical Therapy, ISRT 2026, bringing leading experts in nuclear medicine, radiopharmaceutical therapy, molecular imaging and precision oncology together in Lagos, Nigeria.
The two day symposium, held from August 28 to 29, themed “Advancing Radiotheranostics and Precision Oncology in Africa.” Was hosted by Loveworld Medical Centre in collaboration with the World Association of Radiopharmaceutical and Molecular Therapy, WARMTH, the International Centers for Precision Oncology Foundation and the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International.
Several participants from Nigeria and countries including South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia, Germany, India and the United States took part in the program, creating an international setting for medical professionals to exchange knowledge and examine new possibilities in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Among the notable experts featured at the symposium are Prof. Richard P. Baum of Germany, a leading figure in theranostics, and Dr. Munir Ghesani of the United States, alongside experts including Prof. Salah Eddine Bouyoucef, Prof. Henok Tesfaye, Dr. Masha Maharaj and other specialists from Africa and beyond.
The programme went beyond conventional conference presentations. Participants were exposed to practical aspects of the field through hands on sessions covering areas such as radiopharmacy, radiolabelling, quality control, radiation safety and clinical radiology therapy. There were also sessions on clinical theragnostics, molecular imaging and breast imaging and sentinel node techniques.
The scientific sessions also explored patient selection, radiological therapy, emerging applications in precision oncology and the development of sustainable theragnostic services. A major highlight is the discussion around expanding access to these advanced treatments and building the partnerships required to make them more widely available.
One of the key conversations took place around the future of theragnostics, an approach that combines highly targeted diagnosis with treatment. By identifying specific characteristics of a tumour and using radiopharmaceuticals to target those cells, the field is opening new possibilities for more personalised cancer treatment.
The Executive Minister of Healing, Health and Social Services and Chairman, LMC, Pastor Dr Deola Phillips, said ISRT was designed to combine diagnosis with targeted treatment for more precise and personalised cancer care.
The symposium also features the Saul Hertz Best Abstract Award, established to encourage emerging researchers and recognise scientific contributions in radiopharmaceutical therapy and related fields.

This event gave healthcare professionals an opportunity not only to hear from international specialists, but also to engage with techniques and technologies that could shape the future of cancer care.
