Randi Weingarten’s recent remarks should get the attention of every parent.
The American Federation of Teachers president spoke at the World Economic Forum about building an “integrated network” bringing together education, labour, government and industry, including developing curricula and pathways connecting education to employment.
Read that carefully. Because behind every code word, there is a hidden agenda.
This is not merely a conversation about improving mathematics or teaching children how to read. It is another example of powerful institutions seeking a greater role in determining the direction of education for your children.
And that is exactly why parents should be paying attention.
Across different school systems, some of the most contentious battles in education are already centred on what children are being taught; sexuality and gender identity, climate change, vaccines and public health, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, religion and competing social values, and even satanism.
Now when organisations like the world economic forum operating far beyond individual communities become involved in conversations about curriculum, education policy and workforce development, parents have every right to ask where that influence begins and where it ends.
The World Economic Forum itself has repeatedly promoted changes to education intended to prepare children for a supposed “changing technological and economic future”.
Now combine that direction with Weingarten’s proposal for an integrated network involving education, government, labour and industry.
Parents should not simply look away.
Because curriculum is not just a harmless paperwork.
Curriculum determines what enters the classroom.
What enters the classroom reaches the child.
And what repeatedly reaches the child can influence how that child understands the world.
That is why parents cannot surrender oversight of their children’s education to governments, corporations, unions, international organisations or anybody else.
- Knowing the track record of the World Economic Forum , this should serve as ringing alarm.
These proposals should not be accepted !!!
Read the textbooks.
Check the curriculums.
Find out who produced the programmes being introduced into your child’s school.
Ask what your children are being taught about sexuality, gender, health, climate, technology and religion.
Ask questions when something does not make sense.
And don’t accept “experts approved it” as the end of the conversation.
This isn’t about keeping children ignorant of the world.
It is about refusing to become ignorant of what the world is teaching your children.
The conversation about the future of education is already happening.
Parents had better be in the room.
